DHAKA, Jan 20, 2015 - U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Population,
Refugees and Migration Anne Richard arrives here today on a four-day
official visit.
During her visit to Bangladesh, Anne Richard will hold meetings and discussions with government officials, NGOs and INGOs, UNHCR, IOM regional representatives and media.
She will also take part in a BIISS conference in Dhaka and will visit Rohingya refugee camps at Cox's Bazar, an American embassy press release said here today.
Assistant Secretary Richard was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration in 2012.
She has a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and an M.A. in Public Policy Studies from the University of Chicago.
Prior to her appointment, Ms. Richard was the vice president of government relations and advocacy for the International Rescue Committee (IRC), an international aid agency that helps refugees, internally displaced and other victims of conflict.
She was also a non-resident Fellow of the Center for Transatlantic Relations at Johns Hopkins University/SAIS and a board member of the Henry L. Stimson Center.
From 1999 to 2001, Ms. Richard was Director of the Secretary's Office of Resources, Plans and Policy at the State Department. She was the deputy chief financial officer of the Peace Corps from 1997 to 1999.
