DHAKA, Sept 9, 2014 Visiting DIrector General of World Health Organization (WHO) Dr Margaret Chan today highly praised the achievements of Bangladesh in the health sector saying other countries in this region can follow the country in this field. Dr Chan said this while paying a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at hotel Sonargaon here after the inaugural session of the WHO South-East Asia regional meeting. The Prime Minister thanked the WHO DG for holding the WHO South-East Asia region health ministers meeting in Dhaka. She also recalled the support of WHO in implementation of Bangladesh's health programmes. PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem CHowdhury briefed reporters about the meeting. Dr Chan extended her thanks to the Prime Minister for giving all out support to hold the WHO meeting in Dhaka. She hailed Bangladesh's success in the healthcare services of women and children saying people of this region would remember Sheikh Hasina forever for her leading role in the health sector. Every country in this region can share and follow Bangladesh in the health sector, Dr Chan said. Dr Chan urged Bangladesh to remain careful about Ebola virus and take necessary preparatory measures to contain the infectious virus, the press secretary said. Health and family welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim and state minister for health Zahid Maleque were present, among others.
